Chapter 1: Impulse
Shirley looked out of the train window and saw the American mountains
pass by. Even though she didn't want to admit it, she couldn't cope without
Matt. It was almost a year since he last visited her in Redington. She
did understand it was important he wasn't around to much. After all, he
was tracking down K-on, a dangerous organization with very *special* ideas
about education. Hanging out with Shirley for too long would put her in
danger.
Shirley also remembered the first time she met Matt. It still brough
a smile upon her face when she thought about that. On the other hand, she
tried to forget about the horse who interrupted them when they were about
to kiss.
Shirley had received an e-mail from Matt. He told her that his investigation
brought him back to the ranch. This was what she needed. Shirley made her
decision. Danger or not, she had to see Matt. She finished her week at
school and, on Friday afternoon, took the first train heading for America.
And here she was, looking out the window, not really enjoying the view.
All she wanted was Matt. Only 40 more minutes and she'd be with him.
***
With a smile on her face she walked on the dirth path leading towards
the ranch. However, her smile disappeared instantly when the ranch came
into view. Shirley dropped her bags and, in horor, ran towards the entrance
of the ranch.
The view was devestating. All the buildings where burnt to the ground
and people she didn't know where rounding up the cattle. People in police
uniforms were swarming all over the place. She noticed a small group of
police officers near the stables. She went over to them. There was a motionless,
burnt body on the ground. The police officers made no attempt to help the
person. He was dead.
Shirley realized what happened. She recognized the hair of the person
and the cowboy hat that lay a few feet away.
The body belonged to Matt.
TO BE CONTINUED...
So, what happened? Did K-on catch up with Matt, was he
killed by a group of cattle thieves, or was it just a tragic accident?
Is Bo going to show up? It's your turn to write what happens next...
