Background:
A newcomer from California, Blake
came to Redington with his mother Lauren after she accepted a position
at the local museum. It was a fresh start for the Hewitts; Blake's
father died in a car bombing in England and Dr. Hewitt wanted to return
to the place of her birth. Blake met Shirley and Bo through Alicia,
who was assigned by Ms. Stratmann to show him around Sussex Academy.
Realizing the young American was also interested in mysteries, Shirley
immediatedly hit it off with him and became attracted to him, much to Bo's
chagrin. Blake became Shirley's other sleuthing partner after discovering
his still-among-the-living father and helping her recover the Mona Lisa
from ENIGMA agents.
Physical Appearance and Other
Traits:
Blake is about Bo's height and
has neatly cut light-brown hair and brown eyes. Fairly muscular,
he wears casual clothing and eventually got used to the Sussex Academy
uniform. His superficial looks are good enough to give him "hunk"
status by the female students at Sussex Academy.
Personality:
Although wealthy, Blake does not
act like a rich snob. In reality, he is a kind person who extends
his warmness to everyone, even to someone as despicable as Molly.
The only exception to this is ENIGMA, which tried to kill his father.
A loner after his father's apparent demise, he has warmed up in his relationships
with people after moving to Redington although he still has a few secrets.
He can be nervous around Shirley, especially when asking her out.
In fact, despite his feelings for the amateur sleuth, he notices Bo's own
feelings for her and tries to encourage him to confess to her with little
success. Very observant, he is also usually incapable of being tricked,
but his overall kind nature can sometimes prevent him from seeing the scheming
of unscrupulous individuals.
Relationships:
Blake is close to his parents,
and with his father now living in Redington, he has the opportunity to
catch up with him. However, his father's work prevents regular father-son
outings. After meeting Shirley and Bo, Blake made friends with their
friends, including Alicia, Bart, Stink, and Parker. Although he has
romantic feelings for Shirley, he has not started officially dating her
yet and tries to convince Bo to confront his own feelings for the young
detective. Despite technically being romantic rivals for Shirley's
heart, he and Bo are friends. Although Molly is Shirley's sworn nemesis,
Blake treats her as though she is a friend.
Abilities and Paraphernalia:
An athletic person who has joined
some of Sussex Academy's sports teams, Blake specializes in the martial
arts, which has proven useful when he, Shirley, and Bo run into trouble.
Another useful skill he possesses is his expertise with computers; as Sherlock,
he has assisted Shirley by obtaining information from well-secured mainframes.
His detective skills are not as good as Shirley's, but he is learning.
Like many kids his age, Blake owns
a computer, but his contains various programs like a phone number tracer
that are very helpful in investigating a case.
HA's Comments:
Blake was created because I had
little information on Matt at the time. Heck, this world was supposed
to take place after S2, but that changed when I learned more about S3.
To be honest, I didn't initially want a love triangle, but the Shirley
and Bo shipper inside me made me do it. He's American because of
me, so there. Of all the fanfic characters I've created, Blake is
one of the two characters my readers wished were part of the show.
In their opinion, he seems to fit into the world of Shirley Holmes.
Of course, compared to the other characters I've created, he is normal.
Oh, his name comes from pro wrestling.
There was a tag team known as the Beverly Brothers in the World Wrestling
Federation around the Hulk Hogan period. One of them was named Blake.
The other guy's name? Bo. (MGM: Might this have inspired "The Case
of the Problem Prone Body Slammers?)
